Where they come from

Nothing here has been imported

Fish that come through the import chain get caught, bagged, flown, held, bagged again and trucked before they ever reach a shop tank. That is a hard few weeks for a small fish, and some of them never really get over it.

Ours have done none of that. Every one has lived its whole life in the water it was born in, eaten the same food since it was free swimming, and it travels exactly once, to you.

They come from parents we picked ourselves and keep here in the fishroom. Most of the photos on a listing are of those parents rather than the fish you are buying, so you can see what a fish should grow into.

Tank leases

We also lease tanks and look after them

Get in touch if you want a tank and fish on a lease to suit your office or workspace, a medical waiting room, a classroom, or just to liven up the house without the need to clean. We take care of all of that within the lease.

Multiple tank sizes, fish of your choosing, live plants and decor, and we come back every month to service it. After twelve months you can buy the tank outright if you have grown attached to it and keep us on for the maintenance, or hand it back. Every one is quoted on the room, so tell us the space and we will tell you what fits.

Leasing covers the lower North Island. A lease means us turning up every month to service it, so the area we can reach is the area we can lease into. Further out than that, ask anyway and we will work something out.

Ordering

How shipping works

Three things happen between you ordering and a box turning up.

Packed the morning it goes
Bagged, boxed and handed straight to an overnight courier. We only send Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so nothing of ours ever sits in a depot over a weekend.

Tracking emailed to you
Sent the same day the box leaves us. Keep an eye out for it and make sure someone can take that first delivery. A second attempt means another night in the box, and that is what we are trying to avoid.
03
You have one hour once it lands
Open it straight away. If anything has not made the trip, send us photos and video within one hour of the courier dropping it off and we will refund you, or send the same fish again with no courier fee. Your call which.

Why we breed rather than import

Captive bred fish help keep a good balance of protection for the hobby, by letting fish stock in the wild stay in their natural environment where they belong.

And with careful ongoing breeding it can do more than that. It can keep some species from falling into decline, and out of extinction altogether. That is worth doing properly, which is why every fish that goes into our breeding line is chosen and watched first.
